Description:

A George III wall timepiece by the eminent partnership Matthew & Thomas Dutton.  The mahogany case with chiselled base has a brass concave moulded bezel.

The twelve inch brass dial with silvered finish in engraved with a roman chapter ring and outer Arabic numerals for the minutes.  The typical blued steel hands have finely pierced heart shaped tips. 

The substantial eight day duration single fusée movement has a double back cock to take the roller suspension of the steeled rod and heavy brass bob pendulum with a rating nut beneath.

Matthew & Thomas Dutton were the sons of William, who entered into partnership with Thomas Mudge in 1755.  Together they employed the skills attained in the Tompion/Graham era to great effect, with the help of their expert cabinetmaker, Ann Rich.  They were patronised by the wealthy merchants and members of the aristocracy as it was generally acknowledged at the time that their designs, the quality of their work and their elegant cases surpassed all others.  Matthew & Thomas Dutton continued the family tradition, working from Fleet Street.
